Sr. Network Operations Engineer
As a member of the Network Operations team, this position will be required to work closely with the customer service, implementation, engineering and software development teams in order to efficiently monitor, troubleshoot and resolve commercially deployed wireless systems. The position requires a responsible, team oriented, well organized individual with strong technical and communications skills and the ability to handle multiple concurrent issues while adapting quickly to rapidly changing priorities.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Monitoring, maintaining and supporting highly available hosted and carrier-grade turnkey platforms
- Assisting with customer implementations and configurations
- Assisting carriers with problem solving multi-party issues in a consultative manner
- Participating in after-hours on-call rotation
- Troubleshooting and managing configurations of:
- Telco Bridges network appliances
- Performance Technologies STPs
- Network Routers and Firewalls
- Other network devices as required
- Providing general assistance with:
- Establishment of operations processes and procedures
- Creation and maintenance of operations documentation
- Creation of training programs
- Oversight of central site and remote installation and/or maintenance activities
Strong candidates will possess:
- 4+ years of system administration experience in Unix or Linux environments
- Thorough knowledge of TCP/IP networking including routing, firewalls, VPNs
- Working knowledge of scripting languages (BASH, PERL)
- Working knowledge of SQL, preferably MySQL
- A strong desire to learn new technology
Preferred Skills and Education:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
- 4+ years of experience administering web and database servers (LAMP preferred)
- Experience with SS7 and SMPP protocols a major plus
- Familiarity with Nagios, Netsaint, and/or SNMP monitoring
- Wireless industry experience a major plus
- May require travel to customer or remote site locations
- May require shift work
- May occasionally require in excess of 40 hours / week
