Global mobile data traffic grew by an impressive 70 percent in 2012, with video accounting for half of this traffic, according to Cisco forecasts. With smartphone use driving growth, Cisco projects that global mobile data traffic will continue to increase at a compound annual rate of 66 percent from 2012 to 2017.
