In a recent blog post, my colleague spoke of mobile data consumption as a parallel to our Thanksgiving Day meal consumption. The latest reports from last week show that more than half of all online shopping was done from a mobile device on Thanksgiving, up 25% from last year according to the IBM annual Digital Analytics Benchmark.
These numbers make it clear that data's seat is befitting of a throne.
However, I will gladly take this opportunity to dub devices as holiday season royalty, since without new, fast, data consumption-friendly devices, we would not be able to partake in this data over indulgence. According to KGI research, iphone 6 sales are predicted to top 56mil this holiday season with the smaller version 6 besting the 6 plus at 60% of all iPhone sales, with lagging availability responsible for the plus' sales shortfall. This proves that devices are king as much as data is king, but one must have firsts before seconds.
